This workshop will present the various partnership options available to nonprofit organizations (including joint programming, administrative consolidation, management service organizations, parent-subsidiary, mergers, etc.) The workshop will present the findings of the largest study on mergers and alliances in the United States, and present the benefits and challenges of restructuring as well as the process of assessment, negotiations and implementation/integration. In addition to the presentation and Q & A session, there will be time for small group discussions for participants to consider how strategic restructuring might help them within the context of their immediate and potential future environment.

Presenters:
David La Piana is founder and President of La Piana Consulting, a firm specializing in solutions to the strategic issues faced by nonprofit organizations and their funders. Recognized as a leading expert on nonprofit management and governance, David has worked extensively with funders and nonprofits across sub-sectors. He has also taught at the University of San Francisco’s Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management and at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
William (Bill) Coy, MA/MFT is Director of La Piana Consulting's Leadership Practice. Bill is an experienced consultant and teacher with particular skills in helping growing organizations to manage their human resources, develop their leadership talent, and integrate their changing cultures. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco where he teaches the core graduate level course on Human Resource Management in Nonprofits.
